According to Wikipedia,
the free encyclopedia “A professional
learning community (PLC) is an extended learning opportunity to foster collaborative learning among colleagues
within a particular work environment or field. It is often used in schools as a
way to organize teachers into working groups.” The idea of PLC is to bring the
community, colleagues and students together, which will definitely enhance the
curriculum and students learning. Agreeing with DuFour (2004) “The professional
learning community model flows from the assumption that the core mission of
formal education is not simply to ensure that students are taught but to ensure
that they learn. It is our job as educators to work collaboratively to enhance
our students' learning, we are responsible for their learning.
PLC gives us the
opportunity to participate in reflective practices, see where we are at and how
we can make it better. It is a great way for educators to work together, in
doing so they will profoundly affects the practices of schooling. This of course will require hard work. This requires
the school staff to focus on learning rather than teaching, work
collaboratively on matters related to learning, and hold itself accountable for
the kind of results that fuel continual improvement (DuFour 2004).
